NEW YORK (NB360) — Timothée Chalamet is set to return to “Saturday Night Live” for his third hosting gig, this time taking on dual roles.
NBC announced on Friday that comedian Dave Chappelle will host the sketch show on Jan. 18, with musical guest GloRilla, while Chalamet will serve as both host and musical guest on Jan. 25.
This marks Chappelle’s fourth time hosting. The announced performers are all deeply involved in awards season. Chappelle and GloRilla, recognized as one of The Associated Press’ Breakthrough Entertainers of 2024, are both nominated for Grammys at the Feb. 2 event. Chalamet has received numerous acting nominations for “A Complete Unknown” and is seen as a potential Oscar nominee, with nominations being revealed on Jan. 19.
In “A Complete Unknown,” Chalamet sang and learned guitar and harmonica to portray Bob Dylan. It’s uncertain what he will perform on the live show (he also sang in “Wonka” and fans may hope for a “Statistics” encore), but he previously shared which Dylan songs he favored.
“I enjoy the more intimate songs like ‘Girl From the North Country’ or ‘Boots of Spanish Leather’ or ‘One Too Many Mornings’ or ‘Tomorrow Is a Long Time,’” he told the AP late last year. “But I also liked ‘North Country Blues’ and ‘Rocks and Gravel’ or ‘Ballad of Hollis Brown’ — songs where you can hear the iron ore in Bob’s voice, the North Country in Minnesota, the Hibbing.”
Dylan himself appeared on “SNL” once, as the musical guest, in 1979. Current cast member James Austin Johnson, who played Dylan in a skit earlier this season, makes a brief appearance in “A Complete Unknown.”
“SNL” is currently celebrating its 50th season. The show will return in mid-February to mark its anniversary over a weekend, including a live Sunday night broadcast of “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” on Feb. 16.
