Washington, D.C. — The White House has confirmed that Donald Trump and senior administration officials are actively discussing a wide range of options to acquire Greenland, underscoring the territory’s growing strategic importance amid rising global tensions in the Arctic.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the issue during a press briefing, stating that national security considerations are driving the discussions and that no options have been taken off the table.

“President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States,” Leavitt said. “It is vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region. The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the U.S. military is always an option at the commander in chief’s disposal.”

According to senior officials, internal discussions include diplomatic negotiations with Denmark, potential economic agreements, and the possibility of a compact of free association. The administration argues that Greenland’s location—positioned between North America and Europe—makes it a critical asset for Arctic defense, missile detection, and control of emerging shipping routes as polar ice continues to recede.

The statement marks the strongest public confirmation yet that the Trump administration is prepared to escalate efforts surrounding Greenland, a move that could significantly impact U.S.–European relations and reshape geopolitical dynamics in the Arctic.

Officials emphasized that discussions remain ongoing and that no final decision has been made, but reiterated that U.S. national security interests will guide all actions moving forward.
