LIMA, Peru (AP) — Colombian superstar Shakira canceled her concert in Lima on Sunday due to being hospitalized with an abdominal issue, the singer announced.

On Sunday afternoon, Shakira posted a statement on her Instagram and X accounts, explaining that she is in the hospital and doctors advised her she couldn't perform.

“I am very sad that I will not be able to take the stage today. I have been deeply emotional and excited about reuniting with my beloved Peruvian audience,” she expressed.

The singer arrived in Peru on Friday evening, planning to perform on Sunday and Monday. Peru is the second stop on her Latin American tour, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, after two shows in Brazil last week.

Latin fans have warmly welcomed Shakira, with crowds gathering at airports to greet her. “Thank you for such an emotional welcome, Lima!” she posted on Instagram on Saturday.

In her statement, Shakira expressed her hope for a swift recovery. “I intend to perform this show as soon as possible. My team and the promoter are already working on rescheduling,” she stated.

The singer is touring to promote her latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, where she transforms her well-publicized divorce into music. The album features the global hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” and recently won Best Latin Pop Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Shakira’s tour will continue throughout Latin America before moving to Canada and the U.S. in May for a series of concerts lasting through June.
