On Friday, former Vice President Kamala Harris endorsed U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate in Texas. This endorsement from a prominent establishment figure is significant as Crockett faces concerns about being perceived as too controversial to succeed in a general election.

A spokesperson for Crockett’s campaign confirmed that Harris recorded a robocall with her endorsement on Friday.

Crockett is competing for the Democratic nomination on Tuesday against state Rep. James Talarico, who is focusing on his ability to appeal to Republicans in a state dominated by the GOP.

Crockett has gained a national reputation as a passionate and combative figure on Capitol Hill, energizing voters who seek leaders ready to challenge President Donald Trump and his right-wing allies.

The primary in Texas on Tuesday is the first major contest of the 2026 midterm elections in the nation.

Harris’ endorsement coincided with Trump’s visit to Corpus Christi, Texas. With the primary just days away, Trump has not publicly endorsed incumbent Sen. John Cornyn or any challengers claiming to be stronger allies of his.

The Texas seat is considered a long shot for Democrats, but some party members hope for favorable outcomes in the November general election.

The Texas Tribune was the first to report Harris’ endorsement.
